For Dominican sisters Cory and Nicol, creating OCOA began with learning to embrace their own curls. Growing up, they absorbed beauty standards that encouraged them to change their natural texture. After moving to the United States, they also struggled to find haircare that reflected their culture and understood their needs.

That shared experience became the foundation for a different vision: nourishing curl care that makes natural beauty easier to embrace.

Cory became a natural hair formulator, helping turn their idea into products inspired by the ingredients and traditions of their Dominican upbringing. In 2021, the sisters launched their first brand, DN Organics, from their kitchen table while still working full-time. In 2023, it became OCOA, opening a new chapter in their mission to simplify curl routines and celebrate their heritage.

Together, they have built a brand grounded in sisterhood, education and connection. Their Helping Hermanas initiative extends that purpose into their community, sharing haircare alongside a message of self-love and acceptance.
